One of the most remarkable features of the Leela Chitra Mandir is that the entire Bhagavad Gita, all 18 chapters and all 700 shlokas, has been engraved in Sangmarmar (marble) on the walls of the hall. Scripture made permanent in stone.

At the beginning of the hall stands a magnificent coloured marble sculpture, made in Jaipur, depicting the scene from which the Gita emerges: Shri Krishna and Arjun in a rath (chariot) on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The two figures are visible in vivid colour, carved directly into the marble, a permanent artistic statement of the moment the Gita was spoken.

This is not a printed text. It is scripture in stone. Each shloka is carefully carved in fine Devanagari script. The wall of the mandir itself becomes a complete, authoritative text of the Gita that requires no paper, no printing, and no electricity to be read. When all other copies have perished, this will remain.

"The Gita in marble is a statement that this scripture is eternal: as permanent as stone, as timeless as the mountain it is named for."
